Inventor Leo Baekeland is best known for his plastic Bakelite, used for distributor caps, steering wheels and other automotive components. From reading this work one learns that he was a very early automobile owner, starting in 1899. This trip accounts Baekeland, his family, and chauffeur on an extended journey through Europe in a custom-bodied 1904 Peerless, made in Cleveland. Interesting material about his early experiences in the U.S. and auto technology.

Note that this version, from the Harvard University Library, was donated in 1915 to Harvard Professor Dr. George Sarton, the father of the study of the history of science in America.
